Taiwan intends to tighten effluent discharge requirements for NH3-N, P, Cu

On August 27, 2024, the Ministry of Taiwan released the draft amendment to the “Effluent Standards” and started soliciting comments. The Standards was promulgated under the Article 7 of the “Water Pollution Control Act”, it specifies the regulated pollutants and discharge limits of each pollutant for enterprises that have obtained the discharge permits and discharge wastewater directly into the water bodies such as rivers and lakes. The draft amendment aims to tighten the discharge requirements for ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), phosphorus (P) and copper (Cu).

 

Amendments to the discharge requirements for NH3-N

Printed circuit board manufacturing and tanning industry are newly added as industries subject to ammonia nitrogen control. For the printed circuit board manufacturing industry, the following discharge requirements are newly added.
