Taiwan regulates PFHxS, its salts, PFHxS-related compounds

On April 24, 2024, Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment announced a revision of the country’s toxic chemical rules called “Categories and Management of Handling for Toxic Chemical Substances”, which is based on the Toxic and Concerned Chemical Substances Control Act.

The revision adds Perfluorohexanesulphonic acid (PFHxS), its salts and PFHxS-related compounds to the list of controlled substances. Table 1 of the revised rules lists these chemicals as substances regulated at any concentration. They are classified as Class 1 toxic chemical substances (“chemical substances that are not prone to decompose”). Table 4 lists requirements that have to be done within a specified period to use these chemicals.
