South Korea to strengthen penalties for repeated failures in remediation of contaminated soil

On February 11, 2025, Kim Tae-sun, a Member of the National Assembly of South Korea, introduced a bill to partially amend the Soil Environment Conservation Act as its principal sponsor. The bill was then referred to the Environment and Labor Committee on February 12, 2025. Under the current Act, if soil contamination occurs, the relevant person responsible for remediation  shall fulfill the responsibility for remediation of such contamination.
