China’s Guangdong province enforces water, air pollutant discharge limits in specified areas

On Jan. 10, 2023, the Department of Ecology and Environment of Guangdong province, China, announced the enforcement of pollutant discharge limits in key areas. This announcement aims to promote soil contamination source control under a national plan for controlling the sources of farmland contamination by cadmium and other heavy metals, jointly issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and other central government departments. The announcement will be in effect for five years from Feb. 1, 2023.
