The new regulations, which will come into effect March 1, 2023, bans the discharge of oil-containing wastewater in specified waters.

Shanghai of China tighten regulations to control pollution by ships

On Dec. 21, 2022, the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress passed Municipal Regulations on the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, and published them Dec. 28. These regulations will come into effect March 1, 2023. The regulations include a ban on the discharge of domestic wastewater and oil-containing wastewater from ships in specified waters, noise regulations, and other pollution prevention measures.
