China’s Zhejiang province issues environmental protection regulations

On May 27, 2022, the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress issued Provincial Regulations on Environmental Protection, which comes into effect on Aug. 1, 2022. The Regulations of Zhejiang Province on Ecological and Environmental Protection, which consist of seven chapters and 71 articles, provide rules for pollution control, carbon emissions reduction, biodiversity protection, realization of the value of ecosystem services, government oversight and punishment. The regulations have provisions on pollution allowance purchase, ecological and environmental damage compensation and the requirement of assessing greenhouse gas emissions in the environmental impact assessment of construction projects in certain industries.
