China revises national standard for green product assessment of sanitary wares

On June 29, 2024, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation published a revised version of the recommended national standard, “Green Product Assessment—Sanitary Wares” (GB/T 35603-2024), which sets out green product assessment criteria and assessment methods for toilet bowls, bidet toilets, washbowls and other sanitary ware. The revised standard will come into effect Jan. 1, 2025. The revision adds bidet toilets to the list of products covered by the standard, and introduces packaging material requirements and low-carbon requirements.

The green product certification of sanitary ware will be done in accordance with the revised standard. The green product certification program recommends that companies obtain the certification. The program covers about 100 items of everyday consumer goods at present.
