China’s Beijing publishes guidelines on screening disused industrial sites for soil contamination risks

On March 25, 2024, the Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau of Beijing, China, published a local standard called the Guideline for Soil Contamination Risk Screening of Former Industrial Sites (DB11/T 2216-2024), which came into effect immediately.

This standard sets out the procedure of screening disused industrial sites for soil contamination risks. The procedure consists of adding target companies to a register, collecting information on their sites, designating sites prioritized for oversight, and maintaining and updating the register.
