China issues the draft amendment to the national standard “Identification standards for solid wastes-General rules”

On January 4, 2024, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China released the draft amendment to the national standard “Identification standards for solid wastes -General rules” (GB 34330-2017) and started soliciting public comments. The deadline for comments is February 29, 2024. According to the supplementary materials, the standard was amended to thoroughly implement laws and regulations such as the “Environment Protection Law” and the “Law on the prevention and control of environmental pollution by solid waste”. In this draft, the application scope, definitions of terms, etc., have been amended, and 17 new sources of solid waste such as “lacquer spray and paint sludge generated during the coating process” have been added.
