China publishes mandatory standard for quality inspection regarding pollutant discharge permits

On June 7, 2023, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment published on its website a mandatory industry standard called the Technical Specification for Quality Inspection of Pollutant Discharge Permit (HJ 1299-2023), which came into effect July 1, 2023.

The standard includes sections on the scope of the standard; methods and requirements for quality inspection regarding pollutant discharge permits; preparation, principles and details of inspection; list of detected issues; and correction requirements. Three appendices are attached to the standard as reference materials.

The ecology and environment departments of local governments can create more detailed standards based on this standard if necessary.
