China issues regulations on two-dimensional barcodes for pollution outlets

On May 26, 2023, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment published on its website a mandatory industry standard called the Technical Specification for Two-dimensional Code Identification of Pollutant Discharge Outlet of Pollutant Discharge Unit (HJ 1297-2023), which came into effect immediately.

This standard sets out basic requirements for two-dimensional barcodes for pollution outlets, requirements for two-dimensional barcodes data management and other requirements.

It regulates the management and use of two-dimensional barcodes for air pollutant and water pollutant outlets by pollutant discharge permit increased management units1 and simplified management units2 based on the List for the Classification-based Management of Pollutant Discharge Permits for Stationary Pollution Sources3.
