New Zealand promulgates rules prohibiting the use of plastics under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008

On March 14, 2022, New Zealand promulgated the Waste Minimisation (Plastic and Related Products) Regulations 2022 as a sub-rule of the Waste Minimisation Act 2008. The purpose of the regulations is to prohibit the manufacture and sale of disposable plastic products, with a particular focus on the reference to “packaging material itself and also prohibiting the case when the packaging material is used to pack other products.” The regulations will into force on October 1, 2022.
