New Zealand Conducts Public Consultation on New Waste Management Bill—Considering EPR Implementation

On April 22, 2025, the New Zealand Ministry for the Environment launched a public consultation on a new waste management bill. This bill aims to replace the existing Waste Minimisation Act 2008 and Litter Act 1979 to enhance waste reduction and management efficiency. A key proposal within the bill is the introduction of an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, which directly impacts businesses. The consultation period for public feedback ends on June 1, 2025.
