New Zealand Publishes Order Adding Dechlorane Plus, UV-328, and Methoxychlor to HSNO Act Schedules 1AA and 2A

On March 13, 2025, the New Zealand government published the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (Schedules 1AA and 2A) Order 2025 in the official Gazette. The order, which came into effect on March 14, 2025, amends the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (HSNO Act) by adding Dechlorane Plus (CAS No. 13560-89-9 et al.), UV-328 (CAS No. 25973-55-1), and Methoxychlor (CAS No. 72-43-5 et al.) to Schedule 1AA (Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants) and Schedule 2A (Persistent Organic Pollutants) under Sections 140A(1) and 140B(1)(a) of the Act.

With these additions, the importation, manufacture, use, and storage of these three substances are prohibited in New Zealand, except for exemptions specified in Schedule 2A under Section 25 of the Act.
