South Korea clarified definition and requirements for non-polluting vehicles with revised Clean Air Conservation Act

The National Assembly of South Korea announced to issue a preliminary notice of legislation of a bill to partially amend the Clean Air Conservation Act (hereinafter “the proposed bill”) for the period from August 6 to August 20, 2024. The proposed bill defines "pollution-free vehicles" as "electric vehicles, solar-powered vehicles, and hydrogen-powered vehicles as stipulated in Article 2, Items 3, 4, and 6 of the Promotion of Development and Distribution of Environment-Friendly Motor Vehicles among vehicles of which air pollutant emissions meet the emission standards set forth by the Ministry of Environment ordinance." The proposed bill also aims to prevent damage to the public due to the spread of low-performance non-polluting vehicles by establishing standards on environmental performance and performance maintenance for the production of non-polluting vehicles and having them certified.
