On December 20, 2023, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), a subordinate organization of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea, held an event titled “K-Battery Standardization Forum.” At the forum, KATS announced Standardization Strategy for End-of-Life Electric Vehicle (EV) Batteries, for the purpose of establishing a circular economy in South Korean battery industry. In South Korea, the End-of-Life EV Battery Recycling Standardization Council was established in June 2022, consisting of experts from industry, academia, and research institutes, including three domestic battery manufacturers and materials and recycling companies. The K-Battery forum has been organized by expanding and reorganizing the Council into material, application, and environment divisions.
