Singapore Repeals Country-Specific Hazardous Waste Definitions, Adopts Basel Standards

On July 31, 2026, Singapore promulgated two legislative instruments related to the Hazardous Waste (Control of Export, Import and Transit) (Amendment) Regulations 2026. Under the new framework, notifications that had previously established country-specific hazardous waste definitions for Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand have been repealed. Singapore will instead refer to the latest National Definitions published on the official website of the Basel Convention Secretariat. Both legislative instruments entered into force on August 1, 2026.
