Singapore to ban six mercury-added products starting from 2027 and 2028

On August 19, 2024, the National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore opened a public comment period, lasting until September 19, 2024, on a proposal to regulate six mercury-added products as hazardous substances under the Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA). The six mercury-added products were agreed to be listed in Annex A during the fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention, held from October 30 to November 3, 2023. To implement this regulation, amendments to the EPMA are expected to be published by 2026, and will be enforced by January 1, 2027 / 2028 after a two-year transition period.
