Singapore passes a bill restricting employment and evaluation based on nationality, gender and other protected characteristics.

The Workplace Fairness Act 2024 (WFA), which was tabled in Parliament on 12 November 2024 was passed by the Parliament, according to a press release dated 8 January 2025. The bill acts as complementary to the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices, introduced in 2007. It aims to enhance employee protection and create a safer environment in which employees are more likely to raise grievances about discrimination, and proposes to regulate such practices in hiring, firing and evaluation.
