Bangladesh to Replace Food Contact Materials Regulations by December 2025

On August 13, 2025, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority notified through WTO/TBT of the “Food Safety (Food Contact Materials) Regulations, 2024,” to replace the current 2019 regulation, and opened a public comment period through October 12, 2025. The regulation is scheduled for publish on December 10, 2025, and is expected to take effect six months thereafter. The regulation applies to packaging materials which come in contact with food, have come in contact with food, or are expected to come into contact with food, whether produced, processed, stored, prepared, served, imported, or marketed domestically. Specific conditions are outlined for each packaging made of paper, cardboard, glass, metal, and plastic. Operators that manufacture, import, or sell food packaging materials must register with the authority.
