The Department of Environment (DOE) of Bangladesh issued a Notice on October 19, 2021, to widely inform the public about obtaining permits for import and export of hazardous chemicals included in Annex 1 of the Hazardous Waste and Ship Breaking Waste Management Rules 2021 enacted pursuant to Article 20 of the Bangladesh Environmental Protection Act, 1995. The Notice clearly states that the conditions for obtaining a permit are: 1. submission of a clearly written application with detailed information to the Director General of the DOE at the time of export and import and 2. payment of the permit fee and value-added tax at the time of application for the permit. When submitting an application, the documents required must be submitted along with the pay order, import registration certificate, letter of credit, trade permit, and, if applicable, environmental permit for chemical storage facilities and permits from the Department of Explosives and the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense.
