Korea inspects compliance with safety standards for 1.77 million imported products including toys

On May 30, 2022, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea and Korea Customs Service announced that as a result of an intensive inspection (from April 4 to 29, 2022) of safety at the customs clearance stage for imported products mainly used as gifts, such as toys and sporting goods, 720,000 products in violation of safety standards were uncovered. The 720,000 violations uncovered include 410,000 items that failed to meet safety certification, 140,000 items that violated labeling requirements, and 150,000 items that were falsely labeled. The government explained that it will block the distribution of the products found in violation this time and further strengthen inspections at the customs clearance stage hereafter.
