South Korea proposes amendment to mandate final PET beverage product manufacturers to use recycled materials, seeking public opinions

On February 21, 2025, the Ministry of Environment (MOE) of South Korea announced a draft amendment to the Enforcement Order of the Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources with the aim of promoting the use of recycled plastic raw materials, soliciting public comments through April 3, 2025. The proposed amendment suggests modifying the industrial sector subject to the mandatory use of recycled plastic raw materials to "beverage manufacturers that use PET (polyethylene terephthalate) to produce finished products," thereby clarifying the scope of the requirement.
