South Korean Technical Standard Agency fully implements safety inspection system for reusable batteries

On October 19, 2023, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), an agency under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea, began the full implementation of a safety inspection system to facilitate reuse of used electric vehicle (EV) batteries with 70–80% remaining life for the second applications such as energy storage systems (ESS) and mobile batteries for camping. The amendment to the Presidential Decree of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act and other subordinate regulations set detailed standards for the designation of inspection organizations, compensation liability, fees, and fines for non-compliance.
