Malaysia Proposes Draft for Sewage Regulations

Malaysia’s Department of Environment proposed a draft for the Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulations 2009 on October 20, 2023, and asked for public comment. The draft amendment proposes new sewage standards to reflect the current situation, as the grace period for compliance with the current standards have already expired. Besides, a new term “mixed sewage” is proposed in order for effluent coming from food and drink sources apply to this new amendment regulations, rather than the Environmental Quality (Trade Effluent) Regulations 2009. Public comment is available until December 20, 2023.
