The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), an international framework for assessing corporate decarbonization targets, announced its 2026–2030 strategy on May 21, 2026. SBTi signaled its intention to shift its role from a traditional “ambition‑setter” to a “transformation partner” that supports companies in driving organizational change. More than 13,000 companies worldwide now participate in SBTi, and the number of climate targets set in 2025 increased by 40 percent year‑on‑year. As corporate challenges move from simply setting targets to managing transition risks and achieving real‑world emissions reductions, SBTi has clarified that it will focus on supporting practical action through the development of implementation‑oriented standards and improved data transparency.
