NSW, Australia Publishes Chemical Control Order for PFAS Monitoring at Landfills and Sewage Treatment Plants

The Government of New South Wales, Australia, published the Landfill and Sewage Treatment Plant PFAS Monitoring Chemical Control Order 2025 in its Government Gazette dated May 29, 2026. This order is issued by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997. In accordance with this order, holders of environment protection licences for landfills and sewage treatment plants in New South Wales must monitor, which includes sampling, analysis, reporting, and record-keeping, for PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, and PFBS in leachate or groundwater at their premises. These measures will take effect on October 1, 2026.
