Victoria, Australia, Bans Recycler from Accepting Plastics Due to Fire Risk

On December 24, 2025, the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria reported that it prohibited a recycler in the state's western suburbs from accepting plastic materials, effective immediately. The ban was issued because the facility was overflowing with poorly managed waste, fire equipment was obstructed, discarded cigarette butts were found on-site, and electrical components were left exposed. According to the EPA, the recycler must comply with the Guideline for Management and Storage of Combustible Recyclable and Waste Materials by reviewing waste inventory, disposing of unnecessary materials, clearing space around fire equipment and plastic shredders, and ensuring electrical installations are safe. Furthermore, the company is required to report its compliance status to the EPA by January 26, 2026.
