National Institute of Environmental Research approves 48 biocidal substances in Korea

On December 30, 2022, the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), an agency affiliated with the Ministry of Environment of Korea, announced that it had evaluated the safety of 116 biocidal substances mainly used in daily necessities, and finally approved 48 of them. In addition, NIER announced that for 68 chemicals that have not been approved in this assessment, a revised version of the “Designation of Existing Biocidal Substances Subject to the Grace Period for Approval” was published on December 30, 2022, to exclude them from the “Grace Period for Approval”. The 48 approved biocides will be manufactured, imported, and distributed in Korea, and the information will be made publicly available in the “Chemical Products Management System”.
