South Korea revises eco-label certification system, adding and deleting target products

On December 24, 2024, the South Korean Ministry of Environment enforced revised notification of Eco-label Target Products and Certification Criteria with the aim of promoting the production and consumption of green products. The Eco-label Certification System is operated under Article 17 of the Act on the Promotion of Environmental Technology and Environmental Industry, granting eco-labels to products that have superior environmental performance compared to other products for the same purpose. With this revision, six categories of lifestyle-related products (electric ranges, dehumidifiers, travel bags, automobile mats and supplies, general restaurants and contract food services, and cultural facilities) were added to the list of products eligible for eco-labels, and the certification criteria were revised for 24 product categories, including toilet paper.
