South Korea to impose fines on business establishments failing to submit hazard prevention plan depending on the number of violations

The Ministry of Employment and Labor of the Republic of Korea notified re-legislation of partial amendments to the Presidential Decree on Occupational Safety and Health Act from May 26, 2023 to June 8, 2023. The draft amendment aims to strengthen control and supervision of the distribution of chemical substances through sharing information about chemicals (e.g., registered chemical substances) among related ministries and agencies. With this revision, the Ministry aims to prevent acute poisoning accidents, which frequently occur at business establishments dealing with chemical substances. On the other hand, the revision has resolved issues identified in the current system, introducing fines for violations against the mandatory submission of the hazard prevention plan, based on the number of violations.
