Hong Kong updates the safety standards for toys and six children’s products

On February 16, 2024, the Hong Kong government published a notice of the amendment to the Toys and Children’s Products Safety Ordinance in the Gazette. The purpose of the Notice is to update the safety standards for toys and classes of children's products listed in Schedule 2 (Schedule 2 products) under the Toys and Children's Products Safety Ordinance (Cap. 424). Through this update, Hong Kong seeks to tighten the limits for hazardous chemicals contained in products. The Notice will take effect on August 1, 2024, toys and children's products listed in Schedule 2 that do not comply with requirements of these updated standards will not be allowed to be manufactured, imported or supplied.

The Ordinance applies to toys and children’s products, the definition of them are as follows.
