Singapore publishes proposals to regulate MCCPs and LC-PFCAs, as well as nine mercury-added products

On January 18, 2024, Singapore published a proposal to regulate medium-chain chlorinated paraffins and long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids (long-chain PFCAs), their salts and related compounds under the Stockholm Convention (POPs Convention), and nine mercury-added products that were decided to be phased out by 2025 under the Minamata Convention as hazardous substances under the Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA) and the Environmental Protection and Management (Hazardous Substances) Regulations, and began soliciting opinions. The deadline for submission of opinions is February 15, 2024. These regulatory measures will be promulgated in the Official Gazette by June 2024 and will be enforced by January 2025 after a six-month transition period.
