Malaysia to Consider Mandatory Labeling of Carbon Emissions for Road Vehicles

On July 27, 2022, Malaysia began to solicit opinions on proposed enhancements to CO2 emission regulations for road vehicles. The call for opinions concerns four new regulatory options for road vehicles to decarbonize the transport sector, one of which is the mandatory labeling of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions at the time of sale. The proposed regulations are intended to implement Action Plan 1.3 of the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030, published in 2020, and are administered by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), one of the relevant agencies of the Ministry of Environment and Water.
