Australian government simplifies record-keeping requirements for companies introducing industrial chemicals weighing 10kg or less

On 15 November 2022, the Australian Government promulgated the Industrial Chemicals (General) Amendment (Introductions of 10 kg or Less) Rules 2022, and the rules came into force on 25 November. The 2019 Industrial Chemicals (General) Rules were amended to simplify record-keeping requirements for companies that introduce industrial chemicals of 10 kg or less (i.e. manufacture or import industrial chemicals for commercial purposes). The Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), which regulates Australia’s chemicals, has decided to simplify the record-keeping requirements for small quantities of substances listed in the Australian Inventory of Chemical Substances (AICS), saying it is “not practically appropriate to apply the same requirements to all introduced substances.”
