Australian Capital Territory Opens Public Consultation to Reduce Single-Use Plastics, Considering Bans on 14 New Items

In February 2026, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) released a discussion paper on reducing single-use plastics and opened a public consultation period from March 2 to May 1, 2026. The ACT has prohibited the sale and supply of various single-use plastic products since 2011. This consultation identifies 14 new plastic items for potential future phase-outs. The initiative aims to avoid unnecessary plastic waste, encourage the use of superior alternatives, and support the community and businesses in transitioning toward more sustainable choices.
