Korea sets standard for facilities handling hazardous chemical substances in semiconductor manufacturing industry

The Ministry of Environment and the National Institute of Chemical Safety (NICS) have established a standard for the handling of hazardous chemical substances customized for the semiconductor manufacturing industry (“Notice on the Installation and Management of Hazardous Chemical Substance Handling Facilities in the Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry”/NICS No. 2022-20), and it came into effect from December 15, 2022. The standard applies to the supply and production facilities handling hazardous chemicals among the manufacturing and use facilities of the electronic integrated circuit manufacturing industry (Korea Standard Industrial Classification: 2611) and the diode, transistor and similar semiconductor device manufacturing industry (Korea Standard Industrial Classification: 2612). With regard to piping in production facilities in finished product form, equipment that has obtained international certification by attaching production requirements in accordance with the standard of the Chemicals Control Act shall be recognized as having complied with the standard for facilities under the Chemicals Control Act.
