Korea mandates installation of IoT measurement devices for small establishments emitting air pollutants

On May 3, 2022, the government of South Korea published a Presidential Decree amending the Enforcement Decree of the Clean Air Conservation Act mainly to make the installation of IoT (Internet of Things) measurement devices mandatory for small-scale establishments emitting air pollutants. This revision mandates the installation of IoT measurement devices at small establishments (Class 4 and 5 establishments) that emit less than 10 tons per year of air pollutants and sets emission allowance standards for specified hazardous air pollutants. In line with this, Enforcement Rules of the Clean Air Conservation Act also set forth details regarding the target establishments where IoT measurement devices must be installed, as well as emission allowance standards for eight specified hazardous air pollutants. The emission allowance standards will take effect on January 1, 2023.
