South Korea to revise chemical accident prevention and management plan regulations

On August 6, 2026, South Korea's National Institute of Chemical Safety (NICS) issued an advance administrative notice of a proposed partial amendment to the Regulations on the Preparation, etc. of Chemical Accident Prevention and Management Plans, with a public consultation open through 4 September 2026. The proposed amendment would primarily add measures to prepare for fires and explosions at workplaces to the internal emergency response plan, including plans for the off-site removal of water-reactive substances and the management of explosion-proof areas.
