South Korea Announces criteria for “Excellent Products for Chemical Substance Reduction” for consumer chemical products subject to safety confirmation

On May 21, 2026, South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE) issued a preliminary administrative notice of the draft Public Notice on the Selection Criteria for Excellent Products for Chemical Substance Reduction (MCEE Public Notice No. 2026-502). Based on the Act on Safety Management of Consumer Chemical Products and Biocides (known as “K-BPR”), the draft Public Notice establishes evaluation and review criteria for recognition of Excellent Products for Chemical Substance Reduction, with the aim of encouraging companies to voluntarily reduce the use of hazardous chemical substances and place safer products on the market.
