On February 27, 2026, South Korean National Assembly member Kim Jong-min and 10 other lawmakers submitted a Bill for Partial Amendment to the Aсt on Promotion of Development and Distribution of Environment-Friendly Motor Vehicles. The proposed amendment aims to strengthen fire safety measures in response to the growing number of fires caused involving electric vehicle (EV) batteries or charging facilities as EV adoption expands. Specifically, the bill would require persons who install charging facilities or dedicated parking areas for environment-friendly motor vehicles to install automatic fire suppression systems. Such systems include upward-facing automatic water spray systems, floor-level automatic sprinkler systems, and ceiling-mounted fire suppression blankets integrated with automatic water supply systems.
