South Korea Revises Guidelines for Environmental Performance Labeling

On July 30, 2025, the Ministry of Environment (MOE) of South Korea finalized and promulgated amendments to the Guidelines for Environmental Performance Labeling, which took effect on the same day. The Environmental Performance Label (EPL) is a voluntary certification scheme established under Article 18 of the Environmental Technology and Industry Support Act. It assesses the environmental impact of products and services across their entire life cycle—from raw material extraction, production, and distribution to use and disposal. The system has been in place since 2001 and is based on the voluntary participation of businesses and organizations, rather than legal mandates.
