South Korea to designate button and coin primary batteries subject to mandatory child-resistant packaging

On July 16, 2025, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) operating under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) announced draft amendments to the Enforcement Rules of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act (Draft No. 2025-0488). The proposed amendments designate button-type and coin-type primary batteries as products subject to mandatory child-resistant packaging and to introduce new safety standards for their packaging.
