South Korea announces basic plan for safety management of children’s products

On January 22, 2025, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), an agency functioning under the Ministry of Industry and Technology of South Korea, announced the Fourth Basic Plan for the Safety Management of Children's Products (2025-2027), together with its vision of "creating a safe living environment for children through preemptive safety management of children's products.” The plan has four main components: (1) improvement of the safety management system for children's products, (2) enhancement of the safety management for online transactions such as direct imports from overseas, (3) establishment of a safety management system for children's products that use integrated and fused technologies, or new technologies, and (4) building a safety management basis for children's products.
