South Korea’s new policy to slash HFCs with planned transition to low-GWP substances

On December 18, 2024, the Ministry of Environment (MOE) of South Korea announced its plan to reduce hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which are widely used as refrigerants. The plan, titled “HFC Management System Improvement Plan” aims to achieve national greenhouse gas emission reduction targets by phasing out HFCs and transitioning to alternative substances.
