Ministry of Environment of South Korea to Implement BPR Pilot Project with Automakers to Establish System for Implementing BPR Regulations

On June 24, 2024, the Ministry of Environment (MOE) of South Korea announced that it will implement a pilot project to support the implementation of biocidal products biocidal products regulation in the automotive industry, together with five major domestic automobile and parts manufacturers, including Hyundai-Kia Motor Group, Renault Korea, and GM Technical Center Korea, and approximately 60 companies that supply antibacterial-treated automobile parts. Under the Consumer Chemical Products and Biocides Safety Act, as known as the Korean BPR (hereinafter “K-BPR”), the automobile industry will be subject to the labeling requirements and public notification standards for “biocidal treated articles” starting January 1, 2028. The pilot project aims to promote it.
