Pakistan announces draft regulations for a review of Initial Environmental Examinations and Environmental Impact Assessments

On April 11, 2022, the Ministry of Climate Change of Pakistan announced draft on Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Review of Initial Environmental Examination and Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2022) and solicited opinions (the deadline for soliciting opinions is unknown). Proponents of projects listed in Schedule I of the draft regulations must submit an Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and proponents of projects listed in Schedule II must submit an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to a federal government agency. In addition, for projects listed in Schedule III, a prescribed Checklist/Proforma must be submitted to the agency. In addition, IEE, EIA, or Checklist/Proforma submissions are required for projects that may have a negative impact on the environment or are otherwise designated by the federal government.
